Welcome

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

With a record-breaking number of over 1600 original abstracts, the Joint ESH-ISH Meeting in 2020 had promised to be a very successful one. Unfortunately, the rapid escalation of COVID-19 led to prohibitive restrictions in terms of travel. Most importantly, the health and safety of all participants of the Joint ESH-ISH Meeting in 2020 had been our highest priority, and for this reason, the decision to postpone the Joint ESH-ISH Meeting from May 29 – June 1, 2020 to the next year 2021 was inevitable. This has been a difficult but correct decision and we would like to thank all of you for your understanding and continuous support.

In this way, we were able to identify a suitable time for the Joint ESH-ISH Meeting in Glasgow from April 11-14, 2021 (from Sunday to Wednesday) at an early stage and thus ensure planning reliability for our congress.

We are all working hard to ensure that the Joint ESH-ISH Meeting in 2021 will become a huge success. The European and International Society of Hypertension meetings are the largest scientific events in hypertension worldwide, it is only every 6 years that we bring both societies together and it is very important for the entire hypertension community that we succeed to bring to Glasgow in April 2021 a large number of delegates, who will be able to interact and network with well-known experts and opinion leaders.

We also gratefully report that there will be no standalone Annual ESH meeting in 2021 in Milan, as originally planned. We would like to express our appreciation to the local organising team and the President of the Milan Meeting, Professor Giuseppe Mancia for postponing the Milan meeting and generously sharing his expertise to make the Joint ESH-ISH Meeting in 2021 an impactful event.

Despite the new dates, the congress will remain in the same city – Glasgow, it will be hosted in the same congress venue – SEC Scottish Event Campus and we would like to preserve the core of the scientific programme. However, the Scientific Programme Committee will re-open the agenda to allow for inclusion of the latest cutting-edge research related to cardiovascular topics associated with COVID-19 and to other late breaking abstracts in the field of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. You will hear more in July on how to submit new original research for our meeting.

We are confident it will be worth the wait and look forward to your active participation and support to make the Joint ESH-ISH Meeting in 2021 a success.

We look forward to welcoming you to Glasgow in April 2021 and we wish you and your families good health and resilience during these difficult times.
